IV. Reflection in Literature

to experience summer class. Great expectations during this summer especially on our Literature class wherein it sounds like so interesting. On our first day of class on literature I didn't expect that Ma'am Dellera is the one who will teach the said subject but I have no doubt 'coz I think she gonna do her job as what I expect.When she starts having her lessons many of my companion starts to yawn. I keep on smiling when I saw them, but as I observe in her class she makes a lot of homework and reading our lessons in advance and that is one of the activity I hate about her classes. She ask my classmates if we understand what she's talking about in front, as usual the loudest answer of course it was YES! On our second week on her she gave us an assignment about Kenny Rogers ballad songs and we have to relate our chosen song in our life and we have to research some riddles and proverbs with its meaning. I chose Kenny Rogers song " Through the Years"heres the lyrics

 and it serves as our recitation for mid-term, it was so exciting to recite in front of your classmates relating yourself in a certain song. And one of the most exciting event on our classes with her was the " Taking Of Mid-term examination" mix emotions was I felt, praying that I will not failed on her subject and if it will  only one thing I can say "KAHULUYA". There are fifty items on our examination and I feel so glad that I got forty-two and i think it will already be a passed score.Here's my example of riddles, legends and proverbs. 

1.It is greater than God and more evil than the devil. The poor have it, the rich need it and if you eat it you'll die. What is it? The answer is NOTHING.
2.It walks on four legs in the morning, two legs at noon and three legs in the evening. What is it? The answer is MAN.
3.What always runs but never walks, often murmurs, never talks, has a bed but never sleeps, has a mouth but never eats? The answer is a RIVER.

The legend that I memorized for me to have my recitation. Can you memorized this one?

The Legend of the Philippine Islands

Being separated by water, each island is wealthy with unique mythology, folklore and legends that explain everything from their tribe’s origin to the natural phenomena. These are handed down from generations to generations.

Palawan, according to the legends, is the shield of a warrior named Pili, who fiercely fought against the foreign invaders. A long time ago, when the Philippines was only one big island, there lived a brave warrior named Pili. He was given that name because he had a pili (local nut) farm. He also called the land Pinili or “The Chosen One.” Pili had a lover named Pinas. They lived a happy life until foreign invaders threatened the land. Pili, was of course not afraid to fight. Every day, he and his army bravely fought the invaders. They remained unbeaten for some time thanks to Pili’s mastery of handling the native long sword or “tabak” and the hard wooden shield called “panangga.”

Victory seemed theirs until the dreaded day came when the invading ships appeared on the horizon. The invaders immediately sent canon balls flying thus destroying Pili’s defense lines. The tattered forces had no choice but to seek shelter and wait for the attack to cease.

Having successfully reached land, the foreign king and his army fought the local soldiers with guns and swords. Because of the local soldiers’ inferior weapons, many of them perished. But Pili, the fierce soldier, stood his ground despite his badly outnumbered and wounded army. Legends said that he looked up to the sky with his sword on one hand and his shield on the other and whispered a prayer to Bathala, their God. Immediately, Bathala answered Pili’s prayer by shouting, “This is my chosen land in the far east!” He stomped his giant foot on the land which created deep cracks that swallowed the invaders. The cracks divided the land into several islands which formed the shape of a warrior in a fighting stance. Visayas was shaped like Pili’s shield and Palawan was his sword. Since Pili and Pinas mysteriously disappeared after Bathala’s intervention, the locals called their newly formed land Pilipinas or Philippines.

Here are the proverbs that I've explained,
1. Absence makes the heart grow fonder. Meaning when you are away from someone you love you love them even more.
2. A friends eye is a good mirror. Meaning a real friend will tell you the truth.
3. A fault confessed is a half redressed. Meaning confession is the beginning of forgiveness.
